Notes: This candlestick is a "go for broke" work of art that contains examples of all of the rosewoods in my studio, some so rare now that they are essentially unobtainable. The 12 species of rosewood come from Mexico (cocobolo and camatillo, Central America (the two Honduran rosewoods), Brazil (tulipwood, kingwood, and Brazilian rosewood), Asia, (East Indian rosewood and flamewood), and Africa (African blackwood, Madagascar rosewood, and palisander). All of the pieces that went into this candlestick have been on my shelves for years, which is the only reason I have the material to make such a thing of surpassing beauty and rarity.  Some of these woods, such as Brazilian rosewood, cannot now be imported at all, and any that is available for purchase was imported to the USA prior to the CITES ban in 1993 and commands prices upwards of $500 per board foot.  I think you get the point that this is a very special candlestick that represents the best of what the world had to offer in the way of beautiful woods before we were so greedy and thoughtless with the very finite supply.  See my conservation page for more of my rant on this topic.

 

Important to know:

Because Brazilian rosewood is listed in CITES Appendix I, cocobolo, the Honduran rosewoods, and flamewood are listed in CITES Appendix II, and Madagascar rosewood and palisander are listed in CITES Appendix III, this candlestick cannot be sold outside of the United States.
